Birthday Party Security

A birthday is not a nightclub. The cover should look like part of the evening, not like a response to something.

What this is
Most birthday enquiries come from one of three places: a milestone party at home, a hired venue where the guest list has grown beyond the invite list, or a party for someone whose name means people turn up uninvited.
Who it's for
Parents, hosts and anyone planning a milestone or VIP birthday.
Where we work
Cotswolds · Gloucestershire · London · UK · Worldwide
Why TACT

Discreet, not doorman-heavy

Most birthday enquiries come from one of three places: a milestone party at home, a hired venue where the guest list has grown beyond the invite list, or a party for someone whose name means people turn up uninvited.

None of those need a row of high-visibility door staff. They need someone on the entrance who knows who is expected, someone aware of the room, and a plan for the end of the night.

Where the problems usually come from

Birthdays go wrong in predictable ways. An address or venue shared in a group chat or on a story. A guest bringing four people nobody knows. Drink over a long evening. And taxis, lifts and a driveway at midnight.

We plan around those specifically rather than staffing a number and hoping.

  • Entrance checks against the guest list
  • Managing plus-ones and late arrivals
  • Awareness of alcohol and the room as the night runs on
  • Uninvited arrivals turned away without a scene
  • Safe, orderly departures and transport

Milestone, teenage and VIP birthdays

Eighteenths and twenty-firsts are their own environment: young guests, social media, and parents who want the evening to run without becoming the story. That is handled with clear ground rules agreed beforehand and a calm presence on the night.

For a publicly recognisable guest of honour, the requirement is usually closer to close protection than event cover — one officer with the person rather than staff on a door.

Common questions

Is this the same as nightclub door staff?
No. The approach is closer to private event cover — quiet, conversational and dressed for the occasion.
Can you cover a teenage birthday party?
Yes. It is a common request, and it works best when the ground rules are agreed with the parents before the night.
The venue is asking for licensed door staff — can you supply them?
Yes. Where the activity is licensable as door supervision, we deploy personnel holding the appropriate SIA licence.
How many officers for a house party of eighty?
Usually one or two, depending on entrances, grounds and whether the address has been shared publicly. We will tell you honestly if you need fewer than you expected.
