Close Protection in The UK

Close protection here is shaped by movement patterns, venue access and how recognisable the client is locally.

TACT operates across the United Kingdom. Some assignments start and finish in one place; most move. A residential requirement in Gloucestershire becomes a London day, then a travel task, then an event.

National work is planned around licensing, distance, driving hours and realistic mobilisation. Where a task is a long way from our base, we say so and plan around it rather than pretending geography does not exist.

Getting there, and moving around

Deployments are planned around road and rail journey times, overnight requirements and rotation, not optimistic assumptions.

What we are usually asked for here

  • Multi-site assignments
  • Tours, events and appearances
  • Corporate travel
  • Long-term rotational cover

What close protection actually involves

Most of a close protection assignment is invisible. Routes are checked, venues are contacted, arrival and departure points are agreed, and the day is walked through before it happens. By the time an officer is stood beside a client, the difficult decisions have usually already been made.

On the day, the work is about distance, pace and awareness: keeping the right space around the person, reading the environment, resolving small problems quietly and moving on. A well-run assignment looks uneventful. That is the point.

Who we deploy, and why

Personnel are selected for the assignment. A client filming in central London, a family staying at a Cotswolds estate and an executive travelling internationally do not need the same officer.

We look at the environment, the client's routine, the level of public exposure, the likely interactions and whether the requirement is single-officer or team-based. Then we put forward the people who fit it.

  • Officers hold the appropriate SIA licence for the activity undertaken
  • Single officer, two-officer or full team structures
  • Security-trained drivers where movement is the main risk
  • Female officers where the assignment calls for it

Common questions

Do you have an office in the UK?
the UK is an operating area rather than a premises. TACT is based in Gloucestershire and deploys personnel to the area; we do not claim offices where we do not have them.
How quickly can close protection be arranged in the UK?
That depends on availability, distance and the nature of the assignment. Call and we will tell you honestly what can be in place and when.
Can the same team cover other locations?
Yes. Assignments regularly move between the UK, London and the wider UK, and are planned as a single piece of work.
