What Is a Residential Security Team?

A residential security team protects a place and the people in it. The work is routine, access control and noticing when the pattern breaks.

Structure

An RST can be one officer overnight or a full rotation covering every hour. Larger properties may need a base position plus patrols; smaller ones may need a single point of control at the entrance.

Daily reality

Most of the job is unglamorous and important.

  • Knowing who is expected and when
  • Managing contractors, deliveries and household staff
  • Checking boundaries, gates and outbuildings
  • Escorting family movements on and off the property
  • Recording anything unusual so patterns are visible

Fitting into a household

Residential work is long-duration and lived-in. Officers need to be trusted around family, staff and children, and clear about what they do not get involved in.
