CEO Security: When Is It Necessary?
Permanent CEO protection is unusual in UK businesses. Period-specific protection is far more common and usually more appropriate.
Assessing the requirement
The relevant questions are whether the individual is publicly identified with a contested decision, whether they have received direct contact, how exposed their routine is, and whether their home address is discoverable.
Scoping it properly
Scope by moment rather than by calendar: the announcement week, the AGM, the site visit, the overseas trip. That is usually where exposure sits, and it keeps cost and intrusion proportionate.
Governance
Decide in advance who authorises protection, who is briefed, and how it is recorded. Ad hoc arrangements made under pressure tend to be expensive and poorly documented.
