What Is Auditor Protection?
Auditing generates confrontation by design. Protection in that context is about de-escalation and distance, not backup.
Why the risk is different
In an audit, the person creating the risk is usually not the subject of the recording but a bystander, staff member or security officer who objects to being filmed. Their reaction is immediate, emotional and unpredictable.
Encounters can escalate from a verbal objection to a grab for the camera in seconds, often with multiple people involved and a crowd forming.
The officer's role
Protective and de-escalatory, and deliberately boring on camera.
- Maintain physical space between the client and an agitated person
- Stay out of the argument
- Watch the people behind and beside the client, not the one in front
- Advise when a situation is no longer worth continuing
- Withdraw the client cleanly if it is
Boundaries
A protection officer is not there to assert your rights, obstruct staff, or hold ground for the sake of content. Any provider willing to do that is a liability to you as well as to themselves.
